Primare DD15: a compact CD transport with digital outputs
DD15 is a transport for compact discs: it reads the signal from the disc and hands it over in digital form to an external device. It has no analog outputs, unlike the CD15 Prisma, which pairs a slot-loading Philips drive with a D/A converter and a network player. Primare presents it as a partner for the SC15 Prisma and the I15 Prisma, whose cabinet format it shares.
Reading is handled by a slot-loading Philips unit, dedicated to CDs and built for low resonance, combined with a digital output designed for low noise. The chassis is the compact one of the 15 series, roughly three quarters the width of a full-size component, intended to find room in any home.
Key features
- Philips CD drive with slot loading
- Digital output on an RCA socket
- Toslink optical digital output
- RS232 port for external control
- 12 V trigger and 3.5 mm IR sockets
- C25 remote control
Connections
There are two outputs, both digital: one coaxial on RCA and one optical on Toslink. For control by other equipment the DD15 has an RS232 port, a 12 V trigger and 3.5 mm IR sockets for input and output; the C25 remote works by infrared. The display is a graphic OLED. Within the 15 series Primare suggests the DD15 alongside the SC15 Prisma network preamplifier, the analog I15 integrated and the R15 phono preamplifier as the system offering the widest choice of connections.
