The T2 is a belt-drive turntable with a 9-inch aluminium tonearm and a Sumiko Rainier MM cartridge already fitted. It is the starting point for anyone after a deck with well-chosen materials, to be connected to a phono input.
T2: how it is built
The plinth is CNC-machined and larger than the one on the T1, which helps stability. It contains no plastic parts and no cavities: being solid, it gives vibration very little to work with. On top sits a glass platter 10 mm thick and weighing 1.7 kg, more substantial than the one fitted to the earlier model, with a felt mat between glass and record.
Drive is by belt and the change between 33 and 45 rpm is handled electronically. The main bearing pairs stainless steel with brass. Pro-Ject quotes wow and flutter of 0.19% at 33 rpm and 0.17% at 45 rpm, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 67 dB. Current comes from an external 15 V universal supply.
The tonearm is aluminium, 9 inches long, with an effective length of 230 mm and an effective mass of 9.5 g. Anti-skating is adjustable and works by spring, using a newly designed mechanism. At the end of the arm is the Sumiko Rainier, a moving-magnet cartridge built by hand in Japan. The box also holds the dust cover, the adaptor for 45 rpm singles and an RCA phono lead. The turntable is manufactured in Europe.
