A recent addition to our range of MC cartridges, the Ania Pro uses our advanced Vital profile naked diamond stylus; this profile is designed to extract as much detail from the vinyl surface as possible. Ania Pro delivers precise bass, warm mids, and accurate highs, to deliver a well-balanced and detailed performance.
Listen to Pro
Using our unique hand-wound micro-coil featured in the rest of the MC range, the Ania Pro is housed in a unique ultra-stiff PPS body, ensuring accurate construction; Rega's three-point mounting method offers the optimum arm connection and at the same time automatically adjusts the overhang. The new head body is protected by a CAD-designed red hard cover to protect the fine internal wires, making handling during assembly safe and risk-free. Ania Pro is equipped with a very high power neodymium magnet and a coil meticulously hand wound on an iron micro cross; this miniature assembly allows for greater ability to trace the vinyl engraving, ensuring even more detail is extracted from it. All of these features combine to deliver a balanced and dynamic performance that will engage you like never before. Ania Pro is the perfect partner for the Planar 3, Planar 6 or Planar 8 turntables.
Rega's MC cartridge design is unique in its approach to achieving an ultra-low mass generator that is undamped (no lead wire) using a unique rhomboidal pivot for the cantilever powered by a specially designed neodymium magnet system, exclusive to Rega. This type of design requires a cartridge body engineered to zero tolerance – which is Rega's area of expertise; with the Apheta 3 and Aphelion products these bodies are machined from a single piece of the highest quality aluminium, a difficult and expensive process which requires all of Rega's forty-four years of experience. In particular, “zero” body tolerance is required in alignment and dimension of the pivot bearing mounting hole and magnet mechanism mounting hole relationship. |
The body of Ania Pro instead uses a unique 40% polymer/glass combination called polyphenylene sulphide (PPS-Fortron). The special characteristics of this material are its hardness and stability in shape and dimension after moulding, both of which are critical for the performance of Ania. And here is the challenge: Rega designed and built the prototypes in a few months, with SLA systems, demonstrating the goodness of the project.
Now we needed to design a production mold capable of extreme precision and long life. PPS is a difficult polymer to mold and requires special attention to mold operation; combined with this a complex shape, almost unshapeable, of the body of the Ania cartridge: it is a very demanding challenge that faced by Rega engineers and selected tool technicians. The chosen technicians have a very high level of technical competence and use the most accurate Swiss CNC machines for EDM; they routinely supply the military and medical industries, working with precision down to a micron (thousandth of a millimetre). To achieve this complex shape of the cartridge body it was necessary to use the most complex high pressure injection molding tool that Rega has ever designed. The tool consists of eight major parts, four of which must move in perfect sync with each other to make each cartridge. The design and production of this “work of art” took a full year and was supervised by the technician with the longest history of craftsmanship experience.
This special PPS body, with its high-quality stainless steel inserts, is combined with a unique rhomboidal pivot, a proven high performance diamond-tipped elliptical cantilever from the low mass moving coil generator assembly; thus achieving musicality, performance, speed, clarity and detail like never before at this price point.
