A Bluetooth 5.0 receiver with aptX and aptX HD, the BT Box E HD brings music from a phone or tablet into a hi-fi system you already own, through either an analogue RCA output or an optical digital one.
BT Box E HD: how it works
It is meant for anyone who already owns an amplifier or stereo system and wants wireless listening without replacing anything else. The receiver connects to a line input with an RCA cable or to a digital input with a Toslink optical lead; the two outputs are switchable, so you pick whichever suits the equipment downstream. Nominal level at the analogue output is 2 Vrms.
On the codec side it handles SBC, aptX and aptX HD over the A2DP profile, so a compatible source can transmit in high definition. Pairing is automatic and takes between 3 and 5 seconds, and the internal memory keeps as many as 8 sources, which lets several people in the household take turns without repeating the procedure. Stated range is roughly 10 metres with a clear line of sight between source and receiver.
The case is very small, 120 x 32 x 100 mm and 250 g, and power comes from the supplied 18 V external adaptor; idle draw stays below 1 W. The manufacturer suggests it as the natural partner for the Phono Box E BT5, the phono stage that sends a turntable's signal over Bluetooth: used together, the two units link a record player to the system with no signal cable in between.
