Pro-ject Pulley 78 GG

A kit with a motor pulley and a belt for playing 78 rpm discs, such as old shellac records, on earlier-generation Pro-Ject turntables.

Puleggia 78 GG: compatibility

The kit replaces the pulley fitted to the motor, together with its drive belt, with a pair sized for 78 revolutions per minute. Once fitted, the new pulley gives two speeds, 33 and 78 rpm: ordinary long-playing records can still be played, and discs that call for 78 rpm, in practice old shellac pressings, are added.

Compatibility needs careful checking. The kit works only on less recent Pro-Ject turntables, those wired straight to the 230/110 V mains or fed by a 16 V alternating-current supply. It does not suit today's models with integrated electronic speed control and a 15 V direct-current power supply. Pro-Ject publishes a list of the compatible models.
