Seven Class G channels with the first 20 watts in Class A for dedicated home cinema power
Arcam PA720 is a seven-channel Class G power amplifier rated at 7x100 W into 8 ohms and 7x140 W into 4 ohms, with RCA/XLR inputs and toroidal power supply.
PA720 belongs to the HDA range and is designed to partner an AV processor when processing and power amplification are kept separate. Its seven channels use Arcam Class G technology and operate in Class A for the first 20 W, providing dedicated power for front, centre, surround and height channels in multichannel systems.
Key features
- Seven channels of Class G amplification.
- Output of 7x100 W into 8 ohms and 7x140 W into 4 ohms.
- First 20 W of operation in Class A.
- Switchable RCA or balanced XLR inputs.
- Toroidal transformer.
- Acoustically damped chassis.
- Paralleled transistor output stages.
- Ethernet and RS232 control.
Class G and dynamic reserve
Class G combines the first 20 W of Class A operation with additional supply rails when power demand rises. With all seven channels driven, PA720 delivers 100 W per channel into 8 ohms and 140 W into 4 ohms while retaining the same amplifier topology across the entire system.
Construction and power supply
The design uses a toroidal transformer, acoustically damped chassis and paralleled transistor output stages. These measures are intended to reduce noise and vibration while maintaining loudspeaker control when several channels demand energy at the same time.
Inputs and integration
Each channel can use either RCA or balanced XLR input, making PA720 suitable for processors with single-ended outputs as well as models such as AV41 with balanced connections. Ethernet and RS232 also provide control and integration for equipment racks or automated cinema rooms.
Dimensions and installation
Arcam specifies 433 x 177 x 425 mm and a net weight of 18 kg, matching the distributor figures. It is therefore a full-size power amplifier intended for permanent installations, with transformer and chassis mass consistent with a dedicated multichannel power section.
