PSC+ copper power cable fitted with Wind XTRM plugs
Blizzard XTRM is a mains cable aimed at good source components and amplifiers. It keeps the conductors of the Blizzard, made entirely of Perfect-Surface Copper+, and pairs them with XTRM plugs, the best AC plugs AudioQuest makes, assembled from parts of the top Storm Series.
The design has two goals: to deliver current without squeezing the peaks that music calls for, and to stop radio-frequency noise picked up along the line from reaching audio and video circuits.
Conductors and geometry
The metal is 100% Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+), the purest copper the brand uses, with a surface processed to be very smooth: this lowers the distortion tied to grain boundaries and to the surface flaws found in every conductor. True-Concentric geometry winds each layer of strands the opposite way to the layer below it: the wires touch at points instead of along lines, under higher contact pressure, and they interact less. Metal and geometry together bring down Transient Intermodulation (TIM) distortion, the kind that makes listening tiring.
Uncompressed current and noise reduction
ZERO-Tech joins low DC resistance to a characteristic impedance of zero: the cable does not choke transients, and current arrives the moment the component asks for it. RF/ND-Tech deals with the ground conductor, which protects against short circuits but also behaves like an antenna: a phase-cancelling array working in common mode, backed by proprietary dielectrics that add differential linear filtering, dissipates noise over a very wide span of radio frequencies.
The 72 V DBS (Dielectric-Bias System) biases the insulation, cuts its noise and makes its filtering effect linear. The conductors are Direction-Controlled: the grain structure of the metal, asymmetrical by nature, is oriented so that induced noise drains away from the points where it would create distortion.
Terminations and lengths
At the wall end the plug is a European Schuko. At the equipment end there is a choice of two IEC connectors: C13, which fits the standard mains inlet of players, DACs, preamplifiers and most amplifiers, and C19, the high-current format found on large power amplifiers and power conditioners. Lengths are 1 m, 2 m and 3 m.
