FireBird: Mythical Creatures RCA interconnect with solid PSS silver conductors
AudioQuest FireBird is the analogue interconnect in the Mythical Creatures series that moves from copper to silver: the conductors are single-wire Perfect-Surface Silver. It adopts ZERO-Tech technology and 72 V DBS biasing and is offered with RCA connectors.
Sold as a pair: the pack holds the two cables for the right and left channels.
Conductors and insulation
The Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) conductors are solid silver wires: having no strands removes the electrical and magnetic interplay between neighbouring wires, and the surface quality lowers the distortion tied to grain boundaries, which favours linear dissipation of RF noise. Insulation changes with polarity. The positive conductors sit in FEP air tubes (FEP Air-Tube), with minimal contact between metal and insulation and a very favourable dielectric constant; the negative ones use a deliberately more lossy insulation, free of both air and FEP, in keeping with the different role of the return conductor.
ZERO-Tech, DBS and noise dissipation
With ZERO-Tech the electrostatic field between the two signal conductors is removed: the cable has no characteristic impedance and cannot be mismatched to the source and load circuits. Radio-frequency noise is dissipated linearly, evenly from octave to octave, and transients stay uncompressed. The 72 V Dielectric-Bias System (DBS) biases the dielectric, which would otherwise behave like a shunt filter, and lowers its noise. The Level 6 Noise-Dissipation system also includes a resistive mesh of carbon and graphene, Direction-Controlled conductors and RF drain wires plated with 6% silver.
Terminations and lengths
RCA termination connects the unbalanced inputs and outputs of sources, preamplifiers and amplifiers. The plugs are very high purity Red Copper with silver applied straight onto it, and the grounded, copper-plated shells keep the metal body from capacitively coupling RF noise into the conductors. Lengths: 0.5 m, 0.75 m, 1 m, 1.5 m, 2 m, 2.5 m, 3 m, 4 m, 5 m and 6 m.
