High-current power cable with solid silver and copper conductors
FireBird Variable Current is the mains cable for equipment whose current draw keeps changing with the signal: power conditioners and regenerators, power amplifiers and every component with a built-in power stage, such as AV receivers, active loudspeakers and amplified subwoofers. Its solid conductors combine Perfect-Surface Silver and Perfect-Surface Copper+.
The cable is sold individually, with a European Schuko plug for the wall socket and a choice of IEC connector for the component.
Conductors and current capacity
Solid-core conductors remove electrical interaction between strands, a significant source of distortion. Finish matters a great deal too: the metal surface guides both the fields inside the conductor and the magnetic fields extending beyond it, and Perfect-Surface metals are processed to make that surface especially smooth and pure. The gauges of the PSS silver and PSC+ copper wires were balanced to approach the behaviour of an all-silver cable. Capacity is 16 A RMS at 220-240 V, 50/60 Hz, and the cable tolerates transient current peaks many times higher than the continuous figure. With ZERO-Tech, low DC resistance is paired with an absence of characteristic impedance, so high-current transients are not compressed.
Noise reduction
Besides protecting against short circuits, the ground wire picks up radio-frequency noise like an antenna; that noise sidesteps the power supply and couples into the most delicate circuits. RF/ND-Tech attenuates it with a phase-cancelling common-mode network and with proprietary dielectrics that perform further linear differential filtering. The 72 V DBS biases the insulation: it reduces dielectric noise and makes the filtering effect more linear, improving wideband dissipation of RF interference. The conductors are direction-controlled, oriented so that noise drains away from the points where it would produce distortion; arrows on the connectors show the direction.
Terminations and lengths
Three IEC connectors are offered for the component end. C13 is the most common on electronics; C15 is the notched version, for components with the matching inlet; C19 is the larger format, for power amplifiers and conditioners with a C20 inlet. Lengths: 1 m, 2 m and 3 m.
