Forest 18 Long Distance: an active 18 Gbps HDMI cable with silver-plated conductors
Forest 18 Long Distance is an active HDMI cable intended for long connections, when several metres separate source and display: ceiling projectors, televisions far from the electronics, systems with the equipment cabinet elsewhere in the room.
Its 18 Gbps bandwidth covers video up to 8K at 30 frames per second (8-bit, 4:2:0): that is 7680 x 4320 pixels, more than 33 million in all. Nearly every film and many television programmes are shot at 24 or 30 frames. HDR pictures and the eARC channel fit within the same bandwidth.
Solid silver-plated conductors
The conductors are solid-core Long-Grain Copper (LGC) with a 0.5% silver plating that improves noise dissipation. Solid wire avoids interaction between strands, one of the main causes of dynamic distortion in cables. The eARC pair also uses solid conductors with 0.5% silver plating, to the benefit of audio quality.
Noise reduction
Noise-Dissipation is rated Level 1. All 19 conductors, namely those for the A/V and eARC signals, the ground-reference drains and the control and power wires, are laid in one specific direction so that radio-frequency noise is drained off as efficiently as possible.
Active equalization
An active frequency equalization circuit makes up for the losses that build up along the run and keeps 18 Gbps available over long distances, where a passive cable would fall short.
