Power cable for source components with solid PSC+ copper conductors
Hurricane Constant-Current is a mains cable designed for audio and video source components, meaning equipment that draws a steady current from the wall rather than the surges typical of power stages. The design brings together solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ conductors, ZERO-Tech, RF/ND-Tech noise dissipation and a 72 V DBS dielectric bias.
The cable is sold individually, with a European Schuko plug at the wall end and a choice of IEC connector at the equipment end.
Conductors and geometry
Each conductor is a single solid wire: with no strands, there is no interaction between neighbouring filaments, which is one cause of intermodulation distortion on transients. Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) has a very smooth surface and high purity, which lowers the distortion associated with the grain boundaries found in every metal. With ZERO-Tech, low DC resistance goes hand in hand with an absence of characteristic impedance, so current transients reach the component without being compressed.
Noise reduction
The ground wire protects against short circuits, yet it also behaves like an antenna and picks up radio-frequency noise that slips past the power supply and reaches the most sensitive circuits. RF/ND-Tech counters this with a phase-cancelling common-mode network, backed by proprietary dielectric materials that add linear differential filtering. The 72 V DBS biases the insulation, lowering its noise and making its filtering of RF interference more linear. The conductors are also direction-controlled: drawn metal has a directional grain structure, and the cable is oriented so that noise drains away from critical points. Arrows on the connectors show which way to connect it.
Terminations and lengths
Three IEC connectors are offered at the equipment end. C13 is the format most widely found on electronics; C15 is the notched variant, for components fitted with the matching inlet; C19 is the larger connector, for components with a C20 inlet. Lengths are 1 m, 2 m and 3 m.
