High-current power cable with solid conductors entirely in PSC+
Hurricane Variable Current is a mains cable for components that draw current in varying and often large amounts: power amplifiers, integrated amplifiers, AV receivers, active loudspeakers, powered subwoofers. It is also optimised for power conditioners and regenerators, to which the rest of the system is then connected.
It carries 16 A RMS at 220-240 V and tolerates transient current peaks many times higher than its continuous rating.
PSC+ copper conductors
Unlike the models that mix two grades of copper, Hurricane uses only solid-core Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+). Solid wire stops interaction between strands, one of the main causes of the transient intermodulation distortion that tires the ear. The surface of PSC+, extremely smooth and pure, removes harshness and brings more clarity than OFHC, OCC and 8N coppers; its purity also reduces the distortion generated by grain boundaries, which exist in every metal conductor.
Uncompressed current and noise reduction
ZERO-Tech ensures current transfer free of compression, a quality that makes the cable suitable for isolation transformers and battery back-up units as well. RF/ND-Tech neutralises the antenna effect of the ground conductor: the radio-frequency noise it picks up would slip around power supplies and into the most sensitive audio and video circuits, but a phase-cancelling array working in common mode and proprietary dielectrics, capable of differential linear filtering, dissipate it over a very wide band of frequencies.
The 72 V DBS (Dielectric-Bias System) keeps the insulation biased, so it produces less noise and filters in a linear way, helping to disperse induced RF noise. Conductor direction is chosen according to the asymmetrical grain structure of the metal, to drain noise away from the points where it would cause distortion; arrows on the connectors show how to orient the cable.
Terminations and lengths
The cable ends in a European Schuko plug at the wall-socket side. At the equipment side there are three IEC connectors: C13 for standard mains inlets, the notched C15 for units that call for a connector suited to higher temperatures, C19 for the high-current inlets typical of large power amplifiers and power conditioners. Lengths: 1 m, 2 m and 3 m.
