Rocket 88: speaker cable with solid PSC+ copper and 72-volt DBS
Rocket 88 is a speaker cable aimed at high-level stereo and home theater systems. It brings together solid Perfect-Surface Copper+ conductors, a Double Star-Quad layout, carbon-based noise dissipation and the 72-volt DBS, all meant to keep distortion and interference low on the run from amplifier to loudspeakers.
Sold as a pair: the pack contains two cables, one for the right channel and one for the left.
Conductors and geometry
Each conductor is a single solid wire rather than a bundle of thin strands, which removes the interaction among strands that ranks as one of the main causes of dynamic distortion. The metal is Perfect-Surface Copper+, the maker's best copper, very high in purity and with a polished surface, chosen to limit grain-boundary effects and harshness in the upper range. The conductors are direction-controlled.
The Double Star-Quad arrangement sets the capacitance and inductance of the cable and works better than both side-by-side parallel runs and the usual twisted pair. The insulation is foamed polyethylene: it holds a lot of air and absorbs less energy than more common materials, so less of it comes back as distortion.
Noise reduction
The negative conductors are wrapped in carbon-loaded polyethylene, which is partly conductive and stops radio-frequency noise from flowing back into the amplifier. The patented Dielectric-Bias System, running at 72 volts, saturates and polarizes the insulation: dielectric noise drops and induced interference is dissipated more effectively over a wide band.
Versions and lengths
Rocket 88 comes in two configurations. Full-Range suits loudspeakers with one pair of terminals, or those where the jumpers stay in place. Single Bi-Wire is one cable that leaves the amplifier with two connections and reaches the loudspeaker with four, feeding the bass and treble inputs of bi-wireable models separately. Lengths: 2 m, 2.5 m, 3 m and 4 m.
