PSS silver and PSC+ copper power cable with Wind XTRM plugs
Silver Cloud XTRM keeps the conductors of the Silver Cloud, in Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) with Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+), and completes them with Wind XTRM plugs, made of silver-coated red copper and beryllium copper.
It is a mains cable in which every element, from the metal to the contacts, is chosen to lower distortion and keep radio-frequency noise away from the circuits of the system.
Conductors and plugs
The two metals, both high in purity and with a Perfect-Surface finish, are combined in a True-Concentric geometry. Metal quality and wire layout work together to cut Transient Intermodulation (TIM) distortion, which makes listening tiring. Wind XTRM plugs stand out for their contacts: silver is applied by the Hanging-Silver process straight onto the red copper and the beryllium copper, and the joints are cold-welded.
Uncompressed current and noise reduction
For a mains cable, low DC resistance is not enough: characteristic impedance matters too. ZERO-Tech brings it to zero, and the current peaks demanded by the most intense musical passages reach the unit without compression. RF/ND-Tech works on the ground conductor, which acts as an antenna and carries RF noise right into the most delicate audio and video circuits: it counters this with a phase-cancelling array working in common mode and with proprietary dielectrics that perform differential linear filtering, over a very wide range of frequencies.
The insulation is biased by the 72 V DBS (Dielectric-Bias System), which reduces its noise and makes its filtering action linear. Conductor direction is controlled as well: the grain of drawn metal is asymmetrical and is oriented so as to drain noise to where it can do no harm. Arrows on the connectors show the correct way to connect the cable.
Terminations and lengths
The wall-end plug is a European Schuko. The equipment-end connector is a choice between IEC C13, the standard on sources, preamplifiers and many amplifiers, and IEC C19, required by units with a high-current inlet, for example substantial power amplifiers and power conditioners. Three lengths are offered: 1 m, 2 m and 3 m.
