A 200 mm driver with aimable treble
CCM682 combines a large bass/midrange unit with ceiling coverage controls.
The Bowers & Wilkins CCM682 pair needs two 250 mm openings. Each 290 mm frame extends 133 mm behind the ceiling and projects 4 mm at the front. The cut-out is larger than the 202 mm required by the 150 mm CCM66x models, so account for lighting and structural elements at the drawing stage.
Key features
- Cut-out 250 mm; frame 290 mm; depth 133 mm.
- Drive units: 200 mm Aramid Fibre bass/midrange and 25 mm Nautilus aluminium tweeter.
- Impedance: 8 ohm, 4.5 ohm minimum; power: 25–150 W recommended.
- pivoting tweeter; three-position EQ; die-cast chassis
Drivers and adjustments
The 200 mm Aramid Fibre cone sits in a die-cast chassis. A 25 mm Nautilus aluminium-dome tweeter pivots to direct high frequencies, while three-position EQ offers another off-axis adjustment. A 30 mm coil and 100 mm magnet further distinguish the bass/midrange unit. CCM683 shares its cone diameter and mounting dimensions, but has a lower recommended upper amplifier power of 130 W rather than 150 W.
Matching figures
Sensitivity is 89 dB, nominal impedance 8 ohms with a 4.5-ohm minimum, and recommended power 25 to 150 W. The -6 dB range covers 35 Hz to 50 kHz. QuickDogs and a convenient connection aid fitting. A C8 pre-mount kit and 6C back box are listed. The pivoting tweeter is valuable when the ceiling grid, rather than exact seating positions, determines the openings.
Its 89 dB sensitivity is 1 dB higher than CCM683 and CCM684, despite their shared outer dimensions. The models should not be treated as identical merely because they fit the same cut-out: driver design, power limit and response adjustments all affect selection. Leave room to aim the tweeter after fitting and keep the three-position control accessible while evaluating the final listening positions.
