Four DSP channels in 1U
CDA-4D spans stereo distribution and externally driven in-wall subwoofers.
The single Bowers & Wilkins CDA-4D amplifier takes one full-width rack unit. Its product dimensions are 436 × 42.5 × 300 mm, and height with feet is 57.5 mm. Four Class D channels can serve two stereo zones or be bridged into fewer, more powerful outputs. Embedded DSP provides speaker optimisation and dynamic EQ for subwoofers.
Key features
- Four Class D channels, 1U rack; 436 × 42.5 × 300 mm.
- 60 W/channel into 8 ohms; 125 W/channel into 4 ohms; 250 W bridged into 8 ohms.
- Two analogue RCA pairs, two digital RCA inputs and Ethernet.
- Two four-pole Phoenix speaker outputs; DSP, dynamic EQ and 12 V trigger.
Power and matching
Each channel supplies 60 W into 8 ohms and 125 W into 4 ohms unclipped. A bridged pair delivers 250 W into 8 ohms; loads should exceed 3 ohms per channel or 6 ohms bridged. ISW-3 and ISW-4 require CDA-4D, while ISW-6 uses it for its opposed drivers. Compared with CDA-16, there are fewer channels but DSP adds dedicated presets and control for subwoofer installations.
Inputs, outputs and rack
Two analogue RCA pairs, two digital RCA inputs, Ethernet and two four-pole Phoenix speaker connectors are provided. A 12 V trigger input and output, signal sensing and network management complete control. A two-channel-plus-bridged-subwoofer arrangement is possible once loads and output assignment are checked. Net weight is 4.4 kg; allow for support and ventilation in the equipment rack.
Output changes substantially with load: 60 W into 8 ohms against 125 W into 4 ohms per channel. Bridging two channels makes one 250 W mono output into 8 ohms for a suitable passive in-wall sub. Assign the two zones and their analogue or digital inputs before wiring the rear Phoenix blocks. Its full-width 1U chassis leaves room to organise the connections on one rack shelf.
