Twin bass/midrange drivers for a cinema room
CT7.4 LCRS puts a vented two-way system in a home-theatre cabinet.
The single Bowers & Wilkins CT7.4 LCRS serves left, centre, right or surround positions in a dedicated cinema. It measures 343 × 444 × 265 mm, or 288 mm deep with the grille fitted. Provide a supporting compartment within the furniture and access to its rear wiring.
Key features
- Cabinet 343 × 444 × 265 mm.
- Twin 165 mm Aramid Fibre bass/midrange; 25 mm Nautilus cloth-dome tweeter.
- 8-ohm impedance (4-ohm minimum); recommended 50–150 W.
- Vented Flowport cabinet; magnetic grille; depth with grille 288 mm.
The middle CT700 model
Two 165 mm Aramid Fibre bass/midrange units accompany a 25 mm cloth-dome tweeter with Nautilus tube loading. The vented cabinet uses Flowport and a magnetically attached grille. Twin drivers distinguish CT7.4 from CT7.5 LCRS with its single 180 mm unit: sensitivity is 94 dB rather than 92 dB, while the lower -6 dB point is 43 Hz rather than 48 Hz.
Load and placement
Nominal impedance is 8 ohms with a 4-ohm minimum and recommended amplifier power is 50 to 150 W into 8 ohms. On-axis response is 49 Hz to 22 kHz within ±3 dB. Net weight is 15.75 kg. Decide its L, C, R or surround role before setting shelves and enclosure space: cabinet width remains 444 mm, while the grille increases total depth from 265 to 288 mm.
The magnetic grille allows the front to be finished after the speaker is integrated into cabinetry. Specified dispersion within 2 dB of reference exceeds a 60-degree horizontal arc and a 10-degree vertical arc. Cabinet position and direction towards viewers therefore remain part of the design, even though the same model can serve several LCRS roles. Plan ventilation and practical access around the enclosure.
