NRG-X3: three-pole power cable with C13 or C5 connector
AudioQuest NRG-X3 is a three-pole mains cable in long-grain copper, offered with two different connectors on the device side. It takes the place of the stock cord of streamers, DACs, game consoles, powered desktop speakers and other electronics with an earthed mains inlet.
The construction recipe is straightforward: good copper, a geometry that holds the strands still, and control over conductor direction to manage induced noise.
Conductors and geometry
The conductors are Long-Grain Copper (LGC). The borders between crystal grains are, in every metal, a source of distortion: with long-grain copper they weigh less and the sound comes out cleaner and clearer.
The Semi-Solid Concentric geometry compacts the strands and keeps them in the same place along the bundle. This brings a significant cut in the distortion produced when single strands interact.
Noise reduction
A drawn conductor has a non-symmetrical grain structure and, as a consequence, a direction. In Direction-Controlled Conductors the direction is chosen by ear on every batch of metal, so that radio-frequency noise is led away from the points where it would cause distortion. It is one of the basic elements of Noise-Dissipation technology.
Terminations and lengths
NRG-X3 can be chosen in two versions. The C13 connector is the three-pole IEC socket most often found on amplifiers, players, DACs and streamers. The C5 connector, known as the cloverleaf, is smaller and is found on external power supplies and compact devices. In both cases the mains side has a Schuko plug. There are five lengths: 1 m, 2 m, 3 m, 4.5 m and 6 m.
