The IW5-LCR is an in-wall loudspeaker, sold as a pair, with two 14 cm woofers and a titanium tweeter: one model covers the left, centre and right channels of a home cinema system.
IW5-LCR: the design
The LCR tag explains the job: the IW5-LCR is intended for the front stage of a multichannel system built into the wall, where a single model serves as left, centre and right and keeps the same tonal character across all three. Two 14 cm bass/midrange units flank a 19 mm tweeter and cross over at 2,500 Hz. Response extends from 60 Hz to 20 kHz, with 89 dB sensitivity and a load suited to 8 ohm amplifiers of up to 100 W.
Both cones are polypropylene with a mineral filler and use computer-optimised ferrite magnets, with motors designed to cope with high power and give a detailed midrange. The tweeter dome is damped and cooled by ferrofluid. The filter, built by hand from air-core inductors and polyester capacitors, follows MartinLogan's Vojtko topology; the sprung terminals accept banana plugs, pins or bare cable as thick as 12 AWG.
The opening to cut in the wall measures 209 x 295 mm, and the actual-size template with its punched guides comes in the box. The locking clamps stay tucked in their housings until you drive the screws, then pull the frame tight to the wall and stiffen it. Allow 81 mm of clear space behind the surface; the front stands 8 mm proud. The micro-perforated grille attaches magnetically, shows no frame and can be painted; the pre-installation bracket is a separate accessory.
