Denon's Japanese-made flagship with bamboo cups
Denon AH-D9200 are flagship closed-back over-ear headphones made in Japan, with bamboo cups and 50mm nanofibre FreeEdge drivers.
Design and intended use
The step from D7200 is not simply a change of wood. Japanese bamboo combines low weight, stiffness and damping, neodymium magnets exceed one tesla and the FreeEdge diaphragms use proprietary nanofibre. The complete headphone is made in Japan and refined to reduce resonance and distortion while retaining the family's comfort.
Main features
- 50mm nanofibre FreeEdge drivers
- Neodymium magnets exceeding 1 tesla
- Naturally damped Japanese bamboo cups
- Specified response from 5Hz to 56kHz
- Two detachable cables with 6.3mm and 3.5mm terminations
Selection and setup
Circumaural memory-foam pads and a leather headband distribute approximately 375 grams. Two cables suit a fixed station or sources with a mini-jack, although this remains a passive wired headphone without Bluetooth. It is intended for systems and listeners able to exploit micro-detail, soundstage and control rather than occasional mobile use.
A closed headphone interacts with head shape, pad seal and position around the ears, so small variations can change bass and imaging. The source should provide a clean, suitable headphone output, and perceived run-in does not replace correct positioning. Wood and leather should also be kept away from excessive humidity and heat.
