The larger soft-dome two-way
CCM684 uses a 200 mm driver yet keeps treble direction adjustable.
The Bowers & Wilkins CCM684 pair fits 250 mm cut-outs beneath 290 mm diameter frames. It needs 133 mm of clear depth behind the ceiling and projects 4 mm into the room. The visible frame diameter belongs in the architectural plan as much as the opening: locate both positions before settling the lighting layout.
Key features
- Cut-out 250 mm; frame 290 mm; depth 133 mm.
- Drive units: 200 mm glass-fibre bass/midrange and 25 mm soft-dome tweeter.
- Impedance: 8 ohm, 4.5 ohm minimum; power: 25–130 W recommended.
- pivoting tweeter; three-position EQ; QuickDogs
A different material combination
The 200 mm bass/midrange cone uses woven glass fibre and the 25 mm tweeter has a soft dome. Its housing pivots to direct treble towards the listening area; three-position EQ gives further control off axis. Compared with CCM683 at the same cut-out size, both driver materials change. The opening alone therefore does not decide between these models.
Fitting and system data
CCM684 has 8-ohm nominal impedance, a 4.5-ohm minimum, 88 dB sensitivity and 25 to 130 W recommended amplifier power. Its -6 dB range runs from 35 Hz to 35 kHz. QuickDogs ease fitting; the C8 kit and 6C back box are listed for preparation. Check the void behind each opening and leave space to make connections before securing the chassis to the panel.
The glass-fibre cone and soft dome retain the large bass/midrange diameter without the Aramid Fibre and aluminium combination of the other 200 mm variants. Sensitivity is 88 dB, the same as CCM683. During commissioning, aim the dome and assess which of the three EQ settings best suits the seats. The listed cut-out and depth remain the first practical checks before any panel is cut.
