JBL C62: invisible 2-way loudspeaker for in-wall or in-ceiling installation
The C62 is the compact two-way model in JBL's Conceal series: a panel that is recessed into a wall or ceiling and, once finished, can no longer be seen. It brings sound to a room with no grilles or cabinets on show and leaves the installer free to choose the position. It is sold as a single unit. Within the series it is the panel with a 165 mm woofer, whereas the C83 and C86 are three-way designs built on a 203 mm woofer.
The panel is a one-piece construction based on a patented baffle, compression molded, and on an outer skin of Fidelity Glass that takes paint. Behind it sit a 165 mm woofer and a single transducer for the mid and high range, both designed for this model and joined by a JBL crossover network at 600 Hz. The integrated back box, made of wood, seals the working volume and limits the sound that leaks into neighbouring rooms.
Key features
- Sealed 2-way system, suitable for walls and ceilings
- 165 mm woofer driven by a 25 mm voice coil
- Neodymium high-frequency transducer, 30 mm voice coil
- Suggested amplifier power from 50 to 100 W RMS into a 4 ohm load
- Sensitivity of 83 dB (1 W/1 m) and response of 45 Hz - 20 kHz at -6 dB, both taken in-room
- Self-resetting protection on two separate circuits, one for the lows and one for the highs
Installation
The C62 is fitted in the same way as an ordinary plasterboard patch; the surface can then be painted like the rest of the wall until it vanishes altogether. The panel measures 302 x 403 x 98 mm (height x width x depth), needs an opening of 305 x 406 mm (height x width) and 86 mm of usable depth inside the wall. It weighs 5.9 kg. The C12PCB pre-construction boards, fitted while the wall is being built, are purchased separately.
Connections
The signal comes in on five-way binding posts, spring-loaded and gold-plated. The loudspeaker has to be driven by an external amplifier with the power indicated above.
