The Paradigm Premier 500C is a sealed three-way centre speaker with four drive units: a 25 mm X-PAL tweeter, a 102 mm X-PAL midrange and two 140 mm woofers, there to carry the dialogue in a home cinema system.
Premier 500C: layout and drive units
The Premier 500C is a true three-way centre: alongside its two 140 mm woofers, with carbon-filled polypropylene cones and ART surrounds, it has a dedicated 102 mm midrange with an anodised aluminium X-PAL cone and a 25 mm X-PAL dome tweeter, damped and cooled by ferrofluid. Midrange and tweeter are fitted with the perforated PPA lens. Voices therefore pass through a drive unit that is not asked to reproduce bass too.
The filters, second-order electro-acoustic, divide at 600 Hz between woofers and midrange and at 2.5 kHz between midrange and tweeter. The cabinet works as an acoustic suspension design, meaning it is sealed and has no reflex ports. Quoted on-axis response runs from 73 Hz to 25 kHz within ±3 dB and bass extension to the DIN standard is 47 Hz. At 30° off axis the band is 73 Hz - 20 kHz: a figure that matters in a centre speaker, since not every viewer sits in front of the screen.
Sensitivity is 92 dB in room and 89 dB anechoic, with an impedance that suits 8 ohm outputs. Recommended amplifiers range from 15 to 120 W and maximum input power is 80 W. The cabinet is 18 cm high, 51.5 cm wide and 32 cm deep, and weighs 11.8 kg. It is offered in more than one finish.
