JBL Everest DD67000: three-way floorstanding speakers with two 380 mm woofers and beryllium drivers
The Everest DD67000 is the floorstander at the top of the Summit series, designed and tuned at the JBL acoustic engineering centre in Northridge, California. It is a three-way system that, compared with the K2 S9900, doubles the 380 mm woofer and adopts beryllium for the midrange and treble driver too, in a much wider and heavier cabinet. Sold as a pair.
Both woofers have a sandwich cone made of three layers: two outer layers of pulp enclose a core of injected foam. Midrange and treble are reproduced by a 100 mm compression driver with a diaphragm in pure beryllium, coupled with a patented Bi-Radial horn; a 25 mm driver, also in pure beryllium, covers the ultra-high frequencies. The crossover networks of the bass section and of the treble section are separate, like the rear inputs, and on the front are the level controls for low and high frequencies, with three positions.
Key features
- Three-way design with two 380 mm woofers using a sandwich cone in three layers
- 100 mm compression driver in pure beryllium on a Bi-Radial horn
- 25 mm driver in pure beryllium for the ultra-high frequencies
- Response from 29 Hz to 60 kHz in half space, from 45 Hz to 60 kHz in anechoic conditions
- Sensitivity of 96 dB (2.83 V at 1 m)
- Recommended amplifier of 500 W
- Front controls for bass and treble level
Technical data
Nominal impedance is 8 ohms, with 5 ohms at 80 Hz and 3 ohms at 40 kHz. The crossover acts at 150 Hz (LF1 section, 6 dB per octave), at 850 Hz (LF2 section, 24 dB per octave) and at 20 kHz (UHF section, 24 dB per octave). Each speaker is 1109 mm high, 965 mm wide and 470 mm deep and weighs 142.1 kg: these are measurements of a single unit. The gold-plated binding posts accept a bi-wiring connection.
Finishes
The cabinet comes in a Rosewood finish.
