ElectroMotion ESLX: the design
Next to the single-woofer model, the ElectroMotion ESLX is bigger everywhere: the XStat panel grows to 102 x 22 cm with 2,244 cm² of radiating area, roughly 350 cm² more, and the 20.3 cm woofers become two. They use high-stiffness paper cones and long-throw motors, working in an asymmetrical reflex chamber designed not to resonate, inside a cabinet that stays slim at 23.8 cm wide. The crossover moves down to 400 Hz, response spans 41 Hz to 22 kHz within ±3 dB and suggested amplification reaches 400 W a channel. Sensitivity and impedance are 91 dB and a nominal 6 ohms, with a 1.6 ohm minimum at 20 kHz.
The panel is built as a section of a cylinder, following Curvilinear Line Source technology: its slight horizontal curve is there to get proper treble dispersion out of a big surface. The steel stators are of a thinner gauge, which makes the panel almost invisible from the listening seat. It behaves as a dipole: front and rear radiate out of phase, so sound cancels at the sides and the side walls interfere less with detail and the stereo image, whereas the energy bouncing off the rear wall brings air and depth.
Panel and woofers are joined by a Vojtko-topology filter using air-core coils, steel-laminate inductors, polyester capacitors in the series legs and low-dissipation electrolytics in the parallel ones. The terminals are doubled for bi-wiring and tighten by hand, no tools needed. ETC spikes are part of the kit, improving stability on thick carpet and coupling to the floor; they sit under removable rubber caps.
