The Q Acoustics Concept 30 is the standmount of the Concept series: it borrows technology and styling from the Concept 300 in a two-way design with a 125 mm mid/bass driver and 25 mm tweeter, built to keep resonance to a minimum. It is supplied as a pair.
Concept 30: Gelcore cabinet and suspension base
The aim of the Concept series is a cabinet that is as quiet as it can be. The walls of the Concept 30 are made of Gelcore: two layers held together by a gel that never sets and that turns the higher-frequency vibration produced by the drive units into heat before the enclosure can return it as colouration. Lower-frequency vibration is dealt with by P2P (Point to Point) internal braces, which stiffen the structure. The speaker then rests on a suspension base that isolates it from vibration, both external and internal.
The drive units are new designs. The assembly is fixed to the aluminium front panel with pretensioned studs, which ensure the acoustic seal, damp vibration and reduce coupling with the rest of the cabinet. The 125 mm mid/bass driver has a larger voice coil, which strengthens the motor and brings a 50% rise in power handling. The 25 mm tweeter is airtight and floats relative to the front panel, sheltered from the resonances of the mid/bass unit. The crossover is mounted on the isolated base, away from the magnetic fields of the drivers and less exposed to microphony.
Stated response runs from 54 Hz to 30 kHz at -6 dB, with 87 dB sensitivity, 6 ohms nominal, a 3.9 ohm minimum and distortion below 0.2% between 120 Hz and 20 kHz. The suggested amplifier ranges from 25 to 100 W; the terminals are doubled for bi-wiring. Each speaker measures 28.4 x 18 x 31.9 cm and weighs 7.9 kg. The Q FS75 and Q FS50 stands and the Q WB75 wall bracket are compatible.
