PowerQuest 2: a slim mains filter with surge protection
The PowerQuest 2 is a mains filter with surge protection designed for home audio and video systems. Its slim body brings together outlets filtered differently according to the equipment they feed, USB-A ports for charging and a 2-metre AudioQuest power cable. The version offered here is the European one, with Schuko sockets and plug.
The low profile and the removable base give freedom of placement. Standing upright behind a cabinet, plugs enter from above into the upper row of sockets; lying flat on a shelf, the base is simply taken off. In both positions every socket stays within reach.
Outlets matched to each kind of equipment
The outlets fall into three groups. The one tuned for 4K/8K video combines the linear filter with extra noise dissipation and is meant for televisions, projectors and universal players. The linear-filtered outlets serve audio and video sources, computers, modems and routers. The high-current outlets are reserved for the most demanding loads: power amplifiers, AV receivers, soundbars and subwoofers.
Filtering and protection
The EMI/RFI filter attenuates electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference travelling along the mains line, while differential-mode noise dissipation deals with disturbances already on the supply or fed back by other devices and household appliances. Surge protection is non-sacrificial: its parts do not wear out with each event, so the unit does not need replacing after a spike. If mains voltage climbs too high, the automatic shutdown opens the main circuit relay in under 0.25 seconds and restores itself once the supply is back at safe values. The antenna signal line (cable or satellite) is protected too.
