This is the RPM 9 Carbon belt-drive turntable in the version supplied with an Ortofon Quintet Bronze cartridge on its 9 inch Evo carbon arm. Heavy chassis on magnetic feet, 7.2 kg platter and outboard motor.
RPM 9 Carbon Quintet Bronze: what goes into it
What sets it apart from the base model is the cartridge: here the Ortofon Quintet Bronze is part of the package. It is carried by the 9 inch Evo arm, which has a tapered carbon fibre tube, inverted pivot bearings and very flexible copper wiring inside, an arm designed to track well even with exacting cartridges. Signal leaves through the five-pin Connect it CC phono lead with RCA plugs; anyone running balanced can ask for the XLR version.
Underneath is a mechanism built around mass. The chassis is a sandwich of CNC-worked MDF and resin-coated steel pellets, heat treated and given a carbon surface. It does not rest directly on the furniture: in every foot two opposing magnets hold it almost suspended, and the studs are there purely to centre it.
The 7.2 kg polished aluminium platter has TPE damping inside and a vinyl covering on top, and works with an inverted ceramic bearing that gives constant speed and low background noise. The motor, in a separate body on a very heavy steel base, has precision control built in and a switch for choosing 33 or 45 rpm. A record puck, a 45 rpm adapter and a spirit level complete the kit.
