Isolation stands for bookshelf speakers
IsoAcoustics Aperta is a series of isolation stands for bookshelf and centre channel speakers. The stand manages the energy of the speaker and reduces the vibrations travelling through the supporting surface, the ones that cause noise and resonance in the listening room and in adjoining rooms. It can be used on the floor, on a shelf, on a credenza, on a desktop or on top of a floor stand.
The patented IsoAcoustics isolators also reduce internal reflections, that is the vibrations that travel from the surface back up into the speaker cabinet and smear the stereo image until it collapses towards the centre. The stated result is a wider, more natural stereo image. The frame is made of aluminium, in a black or silver finish.
Tilt adjustment up to 6.5 degrees
Every Aperta has a built-in tilt adjustment, with gradation markings so that the same angle can be repeated precisely on both speakers. The stand tilts up to 6.5° upwards or downwards: for a downward tilt the bottom frame is rotated, so that the adjustable poles sit at the back. It is used to aim the tweeters at ear level.
There is no height adjustment: if the speaker has to be raised, IsoAcoustics suggests placing something solid under the stand. The isolators are directional, so the logo should face forward, in the same direction as the drivers; those who prefer not to see it can turn the stand through 180°.
Which Aperta to choose
The choice depends on the weight and the footprint of the speaker: the bottom of the speaker should be the same size as the stand or larger, and a few centimetres of overhang are acceptable. Aperta and Aperta 200 are sold in pairs; Aperta 300, wider than it is deep, is sold as a single piece and suits many centre channel speakers. For wider centre speakers two Aperta or two Aperta 200 can be placed side by side, leaving a gap between them.
If the speakers simply rest on a floor stand, the Aperta goes between speaker and stand, provided the top plate of the stand is large enough. When it is not, the support plates are needed: steel plates with a black powder coat finish that are fixed to the surface with the 3M double-sided tape included, or drilled and bolted, and enlarge the supporting area.
