Low-profile isolators for audio components
IsoAcoustics Orea is a series of isolators to be placed under audio components: amplifiers, DACs, CD players, turntables and speakers too. Each Orea is made of machined stainless steel and has a low profile, to raise the component as little as possible. The aim is to eliminate parasitic vibrations, to the benefit of sound clarity and focus.
The upper flange adheres to the underside of the component with a suction-cup-like effect, the lower flange to the supporting surface: all the energy is managed within the core of the isolator, which is tuned to work within a specific weight range. On smooth surfaces the suction effect is created, on textured ones a friction grip; in both cases the connection is strong.
Four models, four weight capacities
Each model has a different weight capacity and is identified by the coloured ring on the lower isolator: Graphite, Bronze, Indigo and Bordeaux. The Orea are packaged and sold individually, leaving the number of units up to the user: the price refers to one isolator. IsoAcoustics recommends at least three isolators under each component; three or four are commonly used.
The total capacity is the capacity of a single isolator multiplied by the number of units: three Graphite reach 5.4 kg, four Bronze 14.4 kg, four Indigo 28.8 kg, four Bordeaux 58 kg. What matters most is staying within the capacity: the limits are based on the performance curve and above those figures isolation begins to decline.
How to position them
Whenever possible, the Orea should be in direct contact with the chassis of the component or the cabinet of the speaker, beside the original feet or in their place: this way the weight is spread over the whole top surface of the isolator. They do work under the existing feet, but the load tends to concentrate at the centre.
If the component is heavier at the back, three isolators can be used: two at the rear corners and one at the front centre. Under speakers the logo should face forward, in line with the drivers; under turntables and electronics the orientation has no effect on the result. The Orea have no tilt adjustment: to aim bookshelf speakers at the listener IsoAcoustics offers the Aperta series.
