The king of bass
JL Audio Gotham g213v2 is a sealed powered subwoofer with two 13.5-inch drivers and a 4500 W RMS (short-term) switching amplifier, finished in gloss black.
Gotham v2 is JL Audio's flagship subwoofer. Beyond its design and build, its character lies in the weight and integrity of what it reproduces, typical of a system that always stays in control. The stated frequency response runs from 19 to 112 Hz, within ±1.5 dB in anechoic conditions.
Key features
- Two 13.5-inch 13W7-HT drivers
- Switching amplifier rated at 4500 W RMS (short-term)
- Sealed cabinet in moulded fiberglass, with non-parallel walls
- Gloss black finish with aluminium and stainless steel details
- D.A.R.O. automatic calibration
- Low-pass at 12 or 24 dB/octave, adjustable from 30 to 130 Hz
- RCA and balanced XLR inputs, master or slave mode
- Separate fabric grilles for the drivers and the control panel
Amplifier and drivers
When the programme calls for it, the switching amplifier delivers 4500 W RMS and uses all the travel of the two drivers, about 4 inches (10 cm) from peak to peak: Gotham moves easily through passages that push other subwoofers into clipping or limiting. The two 13W7-HT drivers offer extreme excursion, great linearity and dynamic stability; a proprietary feedback circuit keeps the damping factor high.
Hand-built cabinet
The cabinet body is moulded from solid fiberglass and treated with proprietary damping and internal bracing engineered for a very inert structure. The openings are CNC machined and each unit is prepared, finished and polished by hand. The gloss black finish is completed by details in machined aluminium and stainless steel.
Controls and D.A.R.O. calibration
The adjustments are on top of the cabinet: a flexible low-pass, phase variable from 0 to 270°, switchable polarity, trim of the lowest frequencies (E.L.F., at 28 Hz, between -12 and +3 dB) and D.A.R.O. calibration. The latter relies on an internal DSP to optimise, automatically, how the subwoofer responds in the room, and it includes a laboratory-grade microphone. An XLR output lets a second subwoofer be linked in slave mode.
Supplied accessories
The box contains the subwoofer, the power cord and the two grilles, upper and lower, already attached.
