JL Audio M3-770ETXv3: 7.7-inch enclosed tower speaker system
The M3-770ETXv3 is the ETXv3 enclosed system in the JL Audio M3 series: a 7.7-inch coaxial already fitted in its pod, made for wake towers and other tubular structures. It carries powerful, clear sound even to people in the water, away from the boat.
There are three versions: Classic Gloss White and Sport Gloss White with a gloss white pod, Sport Gunmetal with a satin black pod. Both Sport versions can also be ordered with RGB LED lighting. Sold as a pair; mounting fixtures sold separately. The price is for a pair.
Key features
- 7.7-inch enclosed coaxial system, 4 ohm nominal impedance
- 70 W RMS continuous power; suggested amplifier 20 to 140 W RMS per channel
- Frequency response 55 Hz-25 kHz (+/- 3 dB)
- Sensitivity 90.5 dB (1 W/1 m)
- 19 mm silk dome tweeter
- 16 AWG connection lead, 3 metres long
Open-air sound
The system is designed to give energetic midbass in open-air setups, where there are no walls to help. The woofer is optimised with DMA, the proprietary JL Audio technology that acts on the motor, the suspension and the cone profile to lower distortion and deliver clean, well controlled bass.
Tweeter and filter
Treated silk was chosen for the tweeter because it is light, well damped and linear in response. A second-order filter is integrated in it, plus solid-state protection that makes a failure very unlikely. The M3 series is at its best with a quality amplifier, yet it can also be driven by an ordinary marine source unit.
RGB LED lighting
On the With RGB versions the multicolour LEDs are built into the system. The LEDs run on 10 to 14.4 V DC, draw 108 mA at most at 14.4 V and have their own four-conductor 20 AWG lead, 3 metres long.
Mounting
The pod is 196 mm in diameter and 321 mm deep in the Classic version, 323 mm in the Sport ones. Besides tubes, with the right fixture it can also go on flat panels or other surfaces. Neoprene covers, which protect it when idle or during towing, and light caps exist as separate accessories. Like the rest of the series, this model is made to live at sea and to cope with salt water in the long run.
