JL Audio M6-8IB Luxe: 8-inch marine subwoofer
The M6-8IB Luxe is the 8-inch marine subwoofer in the JL Audio M6 series. IB stands for infinite baffle: it is made to play with no dedicated enclosure, yet it can also be used in a box. It handles 200 W RMS continuously into 4 ohms.
The Luxe grille, low in profile and larger in diameter, comes in two finishes: Gloss White and Satin Black.

Bass
The woofer is optimised with DMA, the proprietary JL Audio technology that acts on the motor, the suspension and the cone profile to lower distortion, improve transient response and deliver clean, well controlled bass. The result is bass that stands out for cleanness, and just as much for smoothness, balance and precision. The M6 series is made to benefit from a quality amplifier.

For system designers: free-air resonance 54.92 Hz, Qts 0.787, Vas 15.29 litres, linear excursion Xmax 14 mm, effective piston area 0.0227 square metres, DC resistance 2.993 ohms. Stated sensitivity is 86.8 dB with 1 W at 1 metre.
Reference volumes
Manufacturer data for anyone who prefers a box: sealed, 56.6 litres net with a -3 dB point at 51.78 Hz; ported, 42.5 litres net, tuned to 37 Hz with a -3 dB point at 31.26 Hz. The stated wall thickness is 19 mm.
Luxe grille
The Luxe grille is a mesh type and wider than the Classic and Sport ones: it is 260 mm in diameter against 224 mm and stands only 12 mm proud of the mounting surface. It therefore needs a different cutout, 219 mm instead of 187 mm: a measurement to check before cutting.
Installation
Outer diameter is 260 mm and the cutout measures 219 mm. Weight is 3.90 kg. The grille stands 12 mm proud of the panel, the fixing holes lie on a 235 mm circle and the driver displaces 2.07 litres. The grille comes off with the supplied tool. Terminals are fork type. Like the rest of the series, this model is made to live at sea and to cope with salt water in the long run.
