MODEL 50: a choice built around the system
MODEL 50 connects sources, listening priorities and space through a coherent configuration.
MODEL 50 is a Marantz analogue stereo integrated amplifier designed for a defined stereo role. Configuration, sources and loudspeakers should be chosen together: its value lies not in a feature count alone, but in the way it simplifies or specialises the system.
Key features
- 70 W per channel into 8 ohms
- 100 W per channel into 4 ohms
- custom HDAM modules
- MM phono stage
- pre-out and power-amp input
Analogue only, by design
MODEL 50 is the centre of a traditional system: six analogue inputs, MM phono and 70 W per channel. It contains no network platform, DAC or HDMI. It makes sense for listeners who want to choose streamer and converter separately, or already own sources they intend to keep.
A flexible platform
The pre-out can feed an external power amplifier or another processor, while Power Amp Direct turns MODEL 50 into a power amp. Twin speaker terminals suit bi-wiring or a second pair, but do not create independent volume zones. This adaptability matters more than the absent digital feature count.
Power for real loudspeakers
Seventy watts into 8 ohms and one hundred into 4, with a stated damping factor of 100, cover standmounts and many floorstanders. Load sensitivity and listening distance remain decisive. MODEL 30 adds reserve for large rooms or severe impedances.
Its place in the range
MODEL 50 costs less than 40n because it omits the connected platform, not because it is an unfinished version. It belongs in a modular chain. MODEL 60n is more logical for HEOS and television, while PM6007 provides the simpler, more compact entry point.
The check before purchase
Before choosing MODEL 50, confirm that 70 w per channel into 8 ohms, 100 w per channel into 4 ohms and custom hdam modules genuinely match the system priorities. That combination, alongside available inputs and shelf space, separates it from nearby alternatives: an unused feature cannot compensate for an unsuitable match.
