The IC3 is a two-way in-ceiling loudspeaker, sold as a pair, that fits a hole just 9.5 cm across: a match for hallways, kitchens and the Atmos channels of a home cinema room.
IC3: drivers and chassis
The IC3 is the smallest ceiling model in the Installer range: its outer diameter is 104 mm and the hole to cut is 95 mm. To gain as much working area as possible in so little room, the 8.9 cm woofer is moulded straight onto the speaker frame. Beside it sits a 19 mm tweeter, crossing over at 1,800 Hz. Quoted response starts at 100 Hz and reaches 20 kHz: this is a speaker for filling passage areas with sound or for height channels, not for deep bass.
The cone is polypropylene with a mineral filler, driven by a computer-optimised ferrite magnet; the titanium tweeter dome is damped and cooled by ferrofluid and keeps the treble even off axis. The Vojtko-topology crossover is wired by hand with polyester capacitors and air-core inductors. With 88 dB sensitivity and an 8 ohm load, the IC3 connects to any amplifier of up to 100 W through sprung terminals.
The IC3's locking clamps are die-cast aluminium: stronger and therefore smaller than those on the other models, as such a compact frame demands. You need 99 mm of depth above the ceiling, and the speaker stands 6 mm proud. The round micro-perforated grille has no frame, can be painted and is held by magnets; anyone who prefers a squared-off look can order the square grille separately, along with the pre-installation bracket.
