The IC3-AW is a two-way in-ceiling loudspeaker with IP54 protection, sold as a pair: it fits a 9.5 cm hole and is made for bathrooms, covered patios and other damp settings.
IC3-AW: protection against moisture
The IC3-AW is the all-weather version of MartinLogan's smallest ceiling speaker and exists for places where humidity rules out a conventional model: a bathroom, or a covered patio outdoors. The crossover wears a protective coating that raises its resistance to water, the grille receives a treatment that keeps it stable even after long exposure to damp, and the points where the drive units fix to the front are sealed. The certified protection rating is IP54.
Acoustically this is a very compact two-way. The 8.9 cm bass/midrange unit has a polypropylene cone with a mineral filler, the 19 mm tweeter a titanium dome damped with ferrofluid; the two cross over at 1,800 Hz through a Vojtko-type filter. Response runs from 100 Hz to 20 kHz, sensitivity is 88 dB and the speaker pairs with 8 ohm amplifiers of up to 100 W.
It takes up very little room: 104 mm outer diameter, a 95 mm hole, 99 mm of depth above the ceiling and 6 mm standing proud. The die-cast aluminium locking clamps hold the frame in place despite being smaller than those on the larger models. The round grille, micro-perforated and paintable, attaches with magnets; no square grille is offered for this version, while the pre-installation bracket is bought separately.
