The IC6-ST is a stereo in-ceiling loudspeaker, sold as a pair: a dual voice-coil woofer and two titanium tweeters reproduce both channels from one spot, for small spaces such as offices, entrance halls and kitchens.
IC6-ST: how single-point stereo works
The IC6-ST starts from the IC6 design and adds the ability to take both channels of a stereo amplifier into a single speaker. The 16.5 cm woofer has two voice coils, one per channel, with two 19 mm tweeters working either side of it; the crossover sits at 3,000 Hz. Wired this way it presents 8 ohms per channel and accepts up to 40 W. Alternatively the terminals can be bridged: the speaker becomes mono, at 4 ohms and up to 80 W, with broad dispersion.
Frequency response extends from 52 Hz to 20 kHz with a sensitivity of 89 dB. The woofer cone is polypropylene with a mineral filler and its motor uses a computer-optimised ferrite magnet; the tweeter domes, in titanium, are damped and cooled with ferrofluid. The crossover follows MartinLogan's Vojtko topology and is built by hand with polyester capacitors and air-wound inductors.
Before the locking clamps are tightened the speaker can be turned in its hole, to aim the two tweeters in relation to the room. The hole is 196 mm in diameter, the depth needed above the ceiling is 80 mm and it stands 8 mm proud. The micro-perforated grille has no frame, can be painted and is held by magnets. The square grille and pre-installation bracket, the same ones as for the IC6, are offered as separate accessories.
