MOTION XTW6: how it is built
The MOTION XTW6 takes the most common in-wall format, a rectangle built around a single 165 mm woofer, and brings it up to Motion XT CI standard. Its black cone is woven Kevlar with a Nomex layer bonded to the rear face to damp resonance and ringing; the basket is cast aluminium and the driver runs open-backed, using the wall cavity as its working volume. Quoted response runs from 56 Hz to 25 kHz within ±3 dB.
The Folded Motion XT tweeter is a very thin film pleated like an accordion, which moves air by squeezing it between the folds and so travels far less than a conventional dome. Against the standard Folded Motion unit its radiating area is 40% greater, and its output is deliberately shaped: 80 degrees across, 30 degrees up and down. In practice more of the sound lands on the listening seats and less of it reaches the rest of the house, which helps in open-plan spaces and in rooms with a lot of glass.
The Vojtko crossover hands over at 2,460 Hz and is built from air-core inductors and polyester film capacitors, with thermal and current protection for the tweeter. The chassis is sturdier than that of the Motion CI range. Once fitted, all that shows is the micro-perforated grille: slim, frameless, paintable and held on by magnets. Sprung terminals take banana plugs, pins or stripped cable up to 12 AWG. Allow a 179 x 259 mm cut-out and roughly 87 mm of clear space behind the surface.
