A very compact two-way in-wall LCR loudspeaker, sold as a pair: two 102 mm woven glass-fibre woofers and a Folded Motion tweeter, for front, centre or surround channels where space is tight.
MOTION MW4-LCR: a compact LCR
The MOTION MW4-LCR is among the most compact in-wall designs MartinLogan has ever made: 324 x 156 mm overall and just 65 mm deep behind the wall. It is a true LCR, meaning a speaker intended to serve equally as left, centre or right channel, and as a surround too, wherever good sound has to come from very little wall space. It carries two 102 mm woofers with woven glass-fibre cones and covers 78 Hz to 25 kHz within ±3 dB, with 93 dB sensitivity.
High frequencies go to the Folded Motion, the pleated-film driver MartinLogan fits across the Motion CI range: an extremely light membrane, with eight to ten times the area of a conventional tweeter, that responds quickly and distorts very little. Its controlled dispersion concentrates sound on the seats and cuts down room reflections. The Vojtko crossover hands over at 2,800 Hz.
Fitting calls for a 301 x 133 mm opening. When the work is done the speaker stands 7 mm proud and is covered by a magnetic micro-perforated grille that is slim, frameless and paintable. Sprung terminals take cable up to 12 AWG. A suitable amplifier delivers 50 to 200 W, peak handling is 100 W and each speaker weighs 2.73 kg. Pre-installation brackets are offered separately.
