A two-way in-wall loudspeaker, sold as a pair: a 165 mm woven glass-fibre woofer and a Folded Motion tweeter, suited to stereo, home cinema and background music alike.
Motion MW6: technology and fitting
The Motion MW6 comes in one of the most common in-wall formats, the one with a 165 mm woofer, and builds it from Motion CI parts: a woven glass-fibre cone and a Folded Motion tweeter. MartinLogan offers it as an all-rounder, equally at home in a two-channel system, a home cinema or plain background music. Quoted response is 62 Hz - 25 kHz within ±3 dB and sensitivity is 90 dB.
The Folded Motion is not a dome: it is a thin film pleated like bellows that pushes air by squeezing it between the folds. Its active area is much larger than that of a 25 mm dome tweeter and the movement it needs much smaller, with gains in bandwidth, speed and distortion. Dispersion is controlled: more energy towards the listener, less towards the surfaces of the room. The Vojtko crossover hands over at 2,920 Hz.
Fitting calls for a 177 x 254 mm cut-out and about 102 mm of depth behind the wall; the finished speaker stands 8 mm proud. The micro-perforated grille is slim, frameless, paintable and held by magnets. Sprung terminals take cable up to 12 AWG. A suitable amplifier delivers 50 to 120 W, with peak handling of 60 W; each speaker weighs 2.72 kg. Pre-installation brackets are offered separately.
