A three-way in-wall system whose forty drive units form a line: sixteen Folded Motion XT Obsidian tweeters, as many midranges and eight woofers in a column more than two metres tall, for large listening rooms and home cinemas.
Statement 40XW: the line source
Statement 40XW heads the Masterpiece CI range and is built into the wall itself. An enclosure 2,137 mm tall carries sixteen Folded Motion XT Obsidian tweeters, forming an unbroken row of about 132 cm, sixteen 89 mm midranges and eight 165 mm woofers, every cone made of unidirectional carbon fibre with Nomex reinforcement. Quoted response is 48 Hz to 25 kHz and sensitivity 95 dB; the Vojtko crossover divides the signal at 300 and 2,700 Hz and the amplifier may deliver 50 to 800 watts.
A line-source layout, meaning a vertical stack of identical groups, shares with electrostatic panels a narrow vertical spread: fewer reflections return from floor and ceiling, the ones that blur our sense of direct sound, while horizontally the tweeters cover 80°. Because the load is divided among many units, each works well inside its limits and distortion stays low even at realistic volume. Level also falls away little with distance, which benefits the furthest seats.
The rear box is reinforced and sealed, isolating the drive units from the wall surface and limiting how much sound reaches adjoining rooms. It goes between the studs: the cavity must be 368 to 420 mm wide, at least 2,260 mm high without obstruction and no less than 89 mm deep. The installation kit included is chosen according to plasterboard thickness, roughly 13 or 16 mm. The slim micro-perforated grille can be painted; the pre-installation bracket of the other Masterpiece CI models is not offered for this one.
