Tribute 5XW: what is inside
Tribute 5XW is a two-way design 79 cm tall that backs its two active 133 mm woofers with two 165 mm passive radiators using the very same cone. In this configuration the quoted response spans 71 Hz to 25 kHz, sensitivity is 94 dB and impedance 4 ohms; amplifier power may be anywhere from 20 to 250 watts. The Folded Motion XT Obsidian tweeter takes over at 2,250 Hz and can be turned so the speaker may be fitted horizontally.
The cones are unidirectional carbon fibre, which the maker describes as having double the strength of steel at one sixth of its density, and are built in several sections. A Nomex layer on the rear damps them and curbs resonance; the concave dust cap adds stiffness and the inverted surround leaves more room for travel behind the grille. The Vojtko crossover, hand-assembled from air-core inductors and polypropylene film capacitors, shields the tweeter from thermal and current overload.
The sealed rear box and the phenolic-resin baffle with its aluminium plate form a closed cabinet that slides between the studs of a standard wall. The opening required measures 757 x 236 mm, with 96.5 mm of depth and 7.8 mm protruding once finished. Two sets of sprung terminals make wiring easier and take banana plugs, pins or bare cable. Separate accessories include a pre-installation bracket and a frame that turns it into a surface-mounted speaker.
