Abyss 10 is the larger powered subwoofer in the Abyss series: a 25.4 cm woofer with two passive radiators of matching size, an 800 W amplifier and built-in wireless reception, for stereo and home cinema systems that need more output and reach.
Abyss 10: the design
Next to its smaller sibling, everything here goes up a size: the three anodised aluminium cones of the Hybrid Woofer System measure 25.4 cm, only one is wired to the amplifier and the other two act as passive radiators. The result is more maximum level and bass that reaches down to 22 Hz, with an upper limit of 120 Hz within ±3 dB, from a sealed cabinet that stays under 40 cm on each side. Aluminium was chosen because it is light, stiff and good at shedding heat; cone behaviour was refined through Klippel analysis.
The amplifier is the Magnitude MT-1.6kW, good for 800 W continuous and 1,600 W peak. It is managed in real time by the Vojtko DSP, which runs at 500 MHz with 64-bit maths and handles every aspect of operation, the wireless functions included. Fine adjustment is done in the Subwoofer Control application on a smartphone: corner frequency from 35 to 120 Hz with third- or fourth-order slope, variable phase, polarity, Movie, Music and Night presets and a dedicated control for the band between 20 and 30 Hz. With the optional measurement kit, ARC room correction can be applied.
Signal can travel without wires, using the supplied transmitter and the receiver already fitted, or by cable: stereo RCA, LFE in RCA and XLR form, high-level inputs for amplifiers lacking a dedicated output, plus an output to a further subwoofer. A 12 V trigger input lets the electronics switch the unit on. The MDF walls are 25.4 mm thick, stiffened around the drivers and by a central brace; the integrated feet decouple the cabinet from the floor and take the conical spikes supplied for carpets.
