Dynamo Foundation 10 is MartinLogan's entry-level powered subwoofer and the most compact in its series: a 25.4 cm woofer facing the floor, a closed box and a 200 W Class D amplifier, for stereo and home cinema.
Dynamo Foundation 10: woofer, amplifier and connections
The driver is mounted in the base and radiates downwards. The cabinet therefore needs no grille and reads as a clean volume 33 cm tall and a little over 31 cm square, easy to place in a living room. The 25.4 cm cone is made of URP, a very stiff polypropylene, on a pressed-steel basket; MartinLogan developed it with the same Klippel analysis applied to the woofers of its dearer ranges. Stated response runs from 25 to 200 Hz within ±3 dB.
The Magnitude MT-400 amplifier works in Class D and supplies 200 W continuous, with 400 W peaks. Signal handling falls to a 200 MHz DSP with 56-bit maths, uncommon equipment at this level, which the designers use to draw maximum output from the system without adding artefacts. Controls are basic and all sit on the rear panel: level, a low-pass filter with a bypass position, phase at 0° or 180°, and permanent or automatic power-on.
Inputs are line level on RCA: left and right for a stereo system, the right one also serving as the LFE input from an AV receiver. There are no high-level inputs. A wireless link is possible by adding the WSK-1 kit, sold apart. The cabinet is MDF with a strengthened woofer panel, stands on non-slip feet and weighs 10.8 kg; it is intended to partner Motion Foundation loudspeakers, yet also suits systems from other makers.
