Foundation B2: what is inside
The Foundation B2 follows the layout of the B1 with a bigger 16.5 cm woofer and a correspondingly roomier cabinet: 38.1 cm high, 19.7 cm wide and 29.2 cm deep, at 6.8 kg. The outcome is a response that reaches down to 42 Hz (up to 23 kHz, within ±3 dB) and a sensitivity of 90 dB. It can go on a shelf or on a stand, and it is compatible with MartinLogan's STAND25.
The two-way crossover hands over at 3,800 Hz. Below that point the work is done by a woofer with a Unibody aluminium cone, the same approach the brand uses in its Motion XT and Motion ranges, with a stamped steel basket and an asymmetrical chamber devised to counter resonances. The cabinet is a bass reflex type venting at the rear. Impedance is 5 ohms and the recommended amplifier rating runs from 15 to 100 watts.
Above 3,800 Hz the Folded Motion S Gen2 tweeter, in Obsidian form, takes over. It uses a folded thin film that provides 22.6 cm² of surface while occupying only 24 x 25 mm: it is light, moves very little and therefore responds promptly. The waveguide that houses it spreads the output over 90° both horizontally and vertically, so the sound stays even for listeners seated off centre.
