The same ALBA for listeners who already own a DAC
ALBA S retains ALBA's driver, shell, cable and acoustic accessories, omitting only the USB-C DAC and amplifier adaptor.
The S does not identify an inferior version. ALBA S is the same 10.8 mm in-ear as ALBA, with the same 32-ohm load, zinc-alloy shell, 2-pin cable and four ear-tip sizes. The difference is commercial and practical: the USB-C adaptor is not in the box. Anyone who already owns a DAC, dongle or player with a 3.5 mm output avoids buying the same link in the chain twice.

Where it works best
ALBA S should be chosen from the listening environment rather than price alone. Its acoustic architecture determines how much room noise enters and how much music reaches nearby people; impedance and sensitivity indicate how readily a phone, dongle, player or desktop amplifier can produce a useful level.
Built to last
Meze designs ALBA S with replaceable cables and wear parts. Being able to renew pads, cable or connections extends useful life and separates a repairable product from one defeated by a single failed element. Materials and finishes therefore have a purpose beyond appearance.
Making the right choice in the range
The useful comparison is not an abstract ranking. ALBA S makes sense when its balance of isolation, openness, portability and supplied equipment matches the source and listening place. Spending more may add materials or technology, but does not automatically make a headphone more suitable for travel, office work or home listening.
