B1xi combines 2x60 W amplification, a Sabre DAC, HDMI ARC, Bluetooth and an MM phono stage in one component.
B1xi is the most comprehensively equipped entry point in the Musical Fidelity range, intended for anyone building a passive-loudspeaker stereo without multiplying boxes. It accepts a television through HDMI ARC, optical and coaxial digital sources, Bluetooth listening and a turntable with an MM cartridge. It is more than an amplifier with numerous sockets: preamplifier, power stage and digital section use separate windings on the toroidal transformer.

The hub of a contemporary living room
HDMI ARC lets the television become a stereo source through one straightforward connection, while the internal DAC removes the need for a separate converter for a streamer, console or digital player. Bluetooth favours speed when somebody wants to share a track; wired inputs remain preferable for stable, purposeful listening. B1xi therefore suits a mixed-use room serving music and films.
Sixty watts designed around real loads
Power rises from 60 W into 8 ohms to 100 W into 4 ohms, a more useful indication than the nominal figure alone because it shows an ability to follow current-hungry loudspeakers. The discrete output stage and toroidal supply retain headroom for peaks. In small and medium rooms there is little reason to chase the wattage of the higher ranges when speaker sensitivity and impedance are sensibly matched.
Analogue where it matters
Volume is handled by a motor-driven analogue potentiometer, so level is not adjusted by sacrificing digital signal resolution. The MM phono stage connects directly to most turntables fitted with moving-magnet cartridges. A pre output also accommodates an active subwoofer or external power amplifier, allowing the system to expand without immediately replacing its control centre.
