The Series 2 phono stage ready for external power
Vinyl 2 is a balanced MM/MC stage with four inputs, comprehensive adjustment and a Uni PSU connection.
Nu-Vista Vinyl 2 brings phono replay to the full-width Series 2 platform. Two RCA and two XLR inputs remain configurable for MM or MC; gain, impedance and capacitance suit different cartridges, while RIAA, Decca and Columbia address records from different periods. Four 7586 Nuvistors operate in the Class A balanced buffer. Compared with Vinyl S, its 22 kg chassis includes an input for Nu-Vista Uni PSU and visually matches DAC, PRE and power amplifiers of the same generation.
Key features
- Two RCA and two XLR inputs
- Adjustable MM/MC loading, capacitance and gain
- RIAA, Decca and Columbia curves
- Two-level subsonic filter
- Nu-Vista Uni PSU provision
For four permanent configurations
Value emerges with several arms or cartridges: each input retains a role and reduces handling of delicate cables. A collection based on one fixed MM does not exploit most of the flexibility and may use a simpler stage.
The smallest signal in the system
A low-output MC works in microvolts, making shielding, distance from supplies and correct grounding decisive. XLR can maintain a balanced path with a suitable arm but cannot automatically convert RCA wiring into balanced operation.
Historic curves and warps
RIAA is normal; Decca and Columbia should be selected only for compatible records. The subsonic filter reduces energy from warped discs or arm/cartridge resonance. Neither replaces a healthy record and correct set-up.
Vinyl 2 compared with Vinyl S
S uses eight Nuvistors, a 14 kg slim chassis and a lower price. Vinyl 2 uses four Nuvistors but adds Series 2 construction and the Uni PSU path. Valve count is not a hierarchy; system, space and upgrade plan decide.
The optional supply is not compulsory
Vinyl 2 already contains the power it needs. Uni PSU permits further separation when the rest of the chain justifies it. Cartridge, arm geometry, turntable isolation and grounding come first. The quotation should distinguish the complete base unit from the Uni PSU upgrade. Buying Vinyl 2 first allows assessment in the actual chain; separate power can follow later without duplicating the phono stage. For Nu-Vista Vinyl 2, dimensions, weight, ventilation, connections and system capacity should be checked as one project, leaving operating margin instead of using every specification at its limit. A trial in the actual chain remains more useful than conclusions drawn from one technical figure.
