Nordost Tyr 2 USB 2.0 Cable

Nordost Tyr 2 USB: a solid-core USB 2.0 lead

The Tyr 2 USB is a lead for the USB 2.0 standard with solid-core conductors, a choice that removes the negative effects of skin effect and of interaction between strands. Each of its four 20 AWG conductors is wrapped in Dual Mono-Filament from Nordost and then enclosed in extruded FEP: this lowers the capacitance of the lead, to the benefit of signal speed and bandwidth.

The conductors follow a twisted double-helix geometry, which secures characteristic impedance and reduces cross-talk and noise. A double layer of silver foil and a silver braid work against external interference. The cable length is mechanically tuned, to reduce internal microphonics and impedance resonances at high frequencies; the connectors are plated in gold and fully shielded.

Technical features

• Conductors: four, 20 AWG each
• Material: solid-core OFC copper, 99.99999% pure, plated in silver
• FEP (fluorinated ethylene propylene) insulation
• Dual Mono-Filament construction in shielded twisted pairs, with mechanically tuned lay and length
• Shielding with 100% total coverage: double layer of silver foil plus braid
• Propagation velocity of 90%
• USB 2.0 connectors of Type A or B

Available versions

The cable is available with A-B or A-A termination, in lengths of 1 m, 2 m, 3 m and 5 m.
