CI Home H80-R v2: what is inside
Compared with the 165 mm models, the CI Home H80-R v2 gains bass and efficiency from its larger cone: on-axis response starts at 60 Hz, extension reaches 45 Hz and room sensitivity rises to 90 dB. The crossover point is 2.5 kHz, and 30° off axis the response remains within ±2 dB up to 18 kHz. It accepts amplifiers of 15 to 90 W, which suits living rooms, open-plan kitchens and day areas of a decent volume. The opening it needs measures 238 mm.
The woofer has a polypropylene cone with mineral filler and a larger-than-usual ferrite magnet assembly, modelled by computer, to combine a detailed midrange with bass that goes deep without overhang. Above it, the dome tweeter is covered by the PPA lens: a perforated plate that protects it and, working like a phase plug, removes phase cancellations at high frequencies. Ferrofluid controls its damping and temperature, which helps clarity over a broad listening area.
Frame and tightening clamps are rigid ABS: as they close they sandwich the rim of the opening and reinforce it, so the ceiling vibrates less. The screws sit in recessed seats with a Torx guide that keeps the bit engaged. For the cable there are terminals with an enlarged hole, good for banana plugs, pins and bare wire. The grille is micro-perforated, has no frame and is retained by magnets; it looks the same as those of the CI Elite and CI Pro ranges, handy when different models share a house.
